Anti Estrogens

Clomid Proviron

Antiestrogens are substances that suppress the biosynthesis, secretion, transport or impair the effect of estrogens. It is believed that anti estrogens specifically bind to estrogen-dependent receptors in the the hypothalamus and ovaries. In small doses, anti estrogens enhance the secretion of gonadotropins ((prolactin, follicle-stimulating and luteinizing hormone) and stimulate ovulation. In low levels of endogenous estrogens, they exert moderate estrogenic effect resulting in increased secretion of gonadotropins. Anti-estrogens do not exert gestagenic and androgenic activity.

This group of medicines is indicated for women to stimulate ovulation in anovulatory ovarian dysfunction and associated with it infertility, dysfunctional uterine bleeding, amenorrhea, other types of pathologies associated with endocrine disorders of ovulation. Anti-estrogens are sometimes indicated for men with ndrogen deficiency, oligospermia, for diagnosis of pituitary gonadotrophic function.

Anti-estrogen are contraindicated for use during pregnancy, malignant and benign tumors, organic damage of central nervous system, liver diseases, bleeding in women not related to ovulation disorders, tendency to thrombosis formation, patients whose work requires quick mental and physical reactions.

The most common side effects associated with anti-estrogens use include: hyperstimulation (pain in lower abdomen, bloating, menorrhagia, ovarian enlargement, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, allergic dermatitis, thromboembolic complications, visual disturbances), in men testicular pain is possible.

Among anti-estrogens Clomid and Proviron are the most widespread. Clomid (clomiphene) is used to stimulate ovulation in women. In men it can be used at the end of steroid cycle to stimulate spermatogenesis. Proviron is actively used for male sexual disorders.
