Clomiphene action mechanism:

Clomiphene is a non-steroidal antiestrogenic drug. Clomiphene works by binding to estrogen receptors of the ovaries and pituitary gland. In low concentration clomiphene citrate exerts estrogenic action, in high concentration of estrogens in the organism clomphene possesses anti-estrogenic action. In low doses Clomiphene stimulates the secretion of gonadotropins (follicle-stimulating hormone, luteinizing hormones), stimulates ovulation. In high doses it suppresses the secretion of gonadotropins. The medication does not possess androgenic and gestagenic activity.

Clomiphene clinical indications: Clomiphene is prescribed in the following conditions:

• Anovulatory infertility (ovulation induction)
• Dysfunctional metrorrhagia
• Polycystic ovarian syndrome (Stein-Leventhal syndrome)
• Chiari's syndrome
• Amenorrhea
• Secondary amenorrhea
• Post-contraceptive amenorrhea
• Galactorrhea (in the background of pituitary tumor)
• Androgen deficiency
• Oligospermia in men
• Diagnosis of pituitary gonadotrophic function disorders.

Clomiphene caution, precaution and warnings!

The medication must not be used in the following conditions:

• Hypersensitivity to any of the medication ingredients
• Liver or kidney failure
• Tumor or dysfunction of pituitary gland
• Dysfunction of the thyroid gland
• Dysfunction of the adrenal gland
• Metrorrhagia of unknown origin
• Vision disorders
• Tumors of the genitals
• Depression

• Endometriosis
• Pregnancy
• Breastfeeding
