Viagra

Other trade names: Kamagra, Silagra, Penegra, Caverta

Active ingredient: Sildenafil citrate

Viagra action mechanism:

The active ingredient of Viagra Sildenafil citrate belongs to a group of erectile dysfunction medications called PDE5 inhibitors. Action mechanism is associated with inhibiting the enzyme phosphodiesterase type 5. This enzyme is responsible for inactivating cyclic GMP.

Physiological mechanism of erection is based on releasing of nitrogen oxide in response to sexual stimulation and activating guanylate cyclase leading to accumulation of GMP. Cyclic guanosine monophosphate interacts with smooth muscle of the cavernous body causing them to relax. The relaxation of smooth muscles enhances blood flow to penis and causes erection. By inhibiting PDE5 Sildenafil increases the amount of cGMP and thus helps achieve erection satisfactory for sexual intercourse.

Viagra clinical indications:

Viagra is used to treat erectile dysfunction in men over 18 years of age.
